CHP adds 130 new officers assigned to 102 areas statewide

On Friday, the California Highway Patrol celebrated the culmination of 26 weeks of rigorous training at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento by welcoming 130 newly sworn officers.

According to a news release, this milestone represents the department’s continued efforts to improve public safety throughout California.

More than just a formality, this graduation symbolizes a serious commitment to serve and defend. Commissioner Sean Duryee stated in the news announcement that these officers have proven their commitment to maintaining community safety in California and the CHP’s basic principles.

To begin their law enforcement careers, the new officers will report to one of the 102 Area offices of the California Highway Patrol (CHP), which will serve and protect communities across all 58 counties in the state.

A variety of backgrounds and experiences are represented among this set of graduates, including previous collegiate athletes, one with experience as a public address announcer, and others with military and public safety duty.

Cadets are taught defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, traffic enforcement, collision investigation, guns, and community policing during academy training. In order to prepare cadets for service in California, the program also emphasizes communication, ethics, legal duties, and cultural sensitivity.

Nearly 300 cadets are still at the CHP’s live-in training facility after the graduation ceremony, and 160 more are scheduled to begin training on August 11 as part of the department’s continuous efforts to improve public safety throughout the state.

The CHP is still actively seeking committed people who are prepared to improve communities across California. A position with the CHP provides chances for professional development and progress, attractive perks, and thorough training.
