Friday marked the first court appearance for a teacher at St. Augustine High School who has been charged by federal authorities with exchanging sexually graphic videos of youngsters.
Earlier this week, Ryan Bennett Segura was taken into custody on suspicion of exchanging the videos with someone in Colorado.
Segura is still being held on charges of disseminating pictures of children engaging in sexually explicit behavior.
A second hearing to review his detention status was scheduled for Tuesday after his brief court appearance on Friday afternoon. Prosecutors stated in court that because Segura posed a threat to the community, the government will take action to keep him in detention, but they did not provide any other details.
The arrest of another guy in Denver last autumn sparked the Segura probe, according to a probable cause statement submitted to federal court.
