The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 13-year-old boy and a probationary man were taken into custody after they were discovered in possession of five kilograms of fentanyl on Friday.
According to a news release from officials, detectives were conducting surveillance in the vicinity of 3rd and Orange avenues in Chula Vista just before 10 a.m.
Authorities spotted a young man with a backpack during this operation, which was part of an attempt to stop the transportation of drugs over international borders. He walked over to the boy and gave the backpack to the youngster. According to Sheriff’s officials, the teenager took it and entered a nearby booze store.
At that point, detectives stepped in and asked the youngster if he should be at school. After finding out how old he was, they found that the backpack held slightly over 11 pounds of powdered fentanyl.
