Backpacks, books, and bonds: Navy Federal rallies for student success

Through August 6, Navy Federal Credit Union will continue its annual Back-to-School Bash campaign, which unites members, team members, and nonprofit partners to help local schoolchildren and military children get off to a strong start to the school year.

Navy Federal’s San Diego Operations site will invite team members to participate in summer giving opportunities during a Back-to-School Bash on Thursday, July 17 at 12:30 p.m. as part of the campaign.

In order to help United Way of San Diego County’s Stuff the Bus campaign, which gathers school supplies including pencils, folders, and binders, donation bins will be available on-site. Richard Allen, an executive on the Navy Federal site, will present a $5,000 donation to Alia Jaziri, Corporate Partnership Manager at United Way of San Diego County, during the ceremony.

United Through Reading’s Mobile Story Station will also be present, providing volunteers with the opportunity to take part in recorded reading sessions for military families. To help children establish strong emotional ties during deployments or separations, each private reading is captured on a tablet and shared with the kids. The initiative strengthens family ties while promoting literacy.

Returning toAccording to Richard Allen, VP of Corporate Accounting at Navy Federal, “school is one of my favorite events on campus because it’s hands-on and personal for our volunteers.” As parents, grandparents, and mentors to local youngsters, our team members reach out to a broad audience to support our San Diego community through our strategic collaborations. Taking care of the people and places we serve is at the heart of our mission.

To ensure military families have access to books on subjects like financial literacy and military life, Navy Federal members can also take part in the campaign by participating in a virtual book drive. Additionally, a few Navy Federal branches in San Diego will host the Mobile Story Station:
