For the third time in four days, the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County fell on Friday, falling three tenths of a penny to $4.549.
According to data from the Oil Price Information Service and the American Automobile Association, the average price is 1 cent less than it was a week ago, 4.1 cents less than it was a month ago, and 12.9 cents less than it was a year ago.
Over the last four days, the average price has decreased by 1.3 cents, falling by half a cent on Tuesday and Wednesday and staying the same on Thursday. Since hitting a record high of $6.434 on October 5, 2022, it has fallen $1.885.
Local drivers continue to enjoy the lowest gas prices since 2021 as the summer road trip season draws to a close, according to a statement released Thursday by Doug Shupe, corporate communications manager for the Automobile Club of Southern California.

Following three straight gains of 2.2 cents, including a half-cent on Thursday, the national average price fell seven-tenths of a cent to $3.153. It is three tenths of a cent more than it was a month ago, but it is also 28.8 cents less than it was a year ago and three tenths of a cent less than it was a week ago.
After hitting a record high of $5.016 on June 14, 2022, the national average price has since fallen $1.863.
