Athens-Clarke County Library solar trackers are a small step towards a 100% renewable energy commitment

With the installation of seven solar trackers, the Athens-Clarke County Library is moving the county closer to its goal of using only renewable energy.

The panels are already operational and will supply the library with electricity as of May 20th. Approximately 20% of the library’s annual energy usage will be supported by it, which is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 27 homes.

The Athens-Clarke County Government has committed to obtaining all of its energy from renewable sources by 2035, and this project is part of that goal. SPLOST 2020 Project 11 Renewable Energy and SPLOST 2011 Project 23 Energy Sustainability Program provided the funds.

Additionally, Memorial Park’s Recreation Hall now has a 30-kilowatt solar system installed by ACCGov. Approximately 40% of the building’s energy requirements will be met by the more than 30,000 kilowatt hours of energy it generates annually.

By 2050, ACCGov aims to provide all of the community’s electricity needs with clean, renewable energy.
