Apalachee High School teachers’ names added to National Memorial to Fallen Educators

The National Memorial to Fallen Educators in Emporia, Kansas, will welcome two teachers who were killed in the shooting at Apalachee High School last year on Friday.

Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie were both math teachers at Winder’s Apalachee High School.

They perished in a school shooting on September 4th of last year, which also claimed the lives of two other kids.

They will now be remembered with seven other American educators who lost their lives while promoting education.

Every loss is heartbreaking, but gun deaths that could have been prevented have a particularly significant impact, according to Maddie Fennell, executive director of the National Teachers Hall of Fame.

The fact that we’re not doing everything we can to stop that, in my opinion, makes it even more awful.

Large black granite books on the Emporia State University campus will bear the names of both instructors.
