An intoxicated Fall River police officer broke into a home early Tuesday morning in search of a lady who did not live there.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of May 27, according to the Fall River Police Department.
A man, later identified as a Fall River police, was beating on a city home’s door and asking for a woman by name, according to the department.
The individual inside the house called for help, and when dispatchers claimed officers were on their way, they hung up the phone.
The police repeatedly asked for a woman by name, but when the person in the home told him she didn’t reside there, the officer fled on foot, according to the department.
When first responders arrived, the person inside the house described the man to them. He appeared highly intoxicated on drink and was “confused or mistaken about the location,” according to the agency.
While initial responders were still on the site, other police officers discovered the man about a half-block away. According to the Fall River Police Department, he was arrested and later identified as a member of the force.
Though it is “common practice” for law enforcement to use discretion and seek medical attention for drunk people, a criminal complaint report was filed against the officer due to “the higher standard to which officers are held,” according to the agency. The charges leveled against him were not revealed.
The officer, who has yet to be identified, is anticipated to be arraigned; his name “will be released upon arraignment,” according to the agency.
However, the cop, who the person in the residence did not know, forced his way inside, according to the agency.
