According to authorities, a 25-year-old man has been detained and charged with attempted murder in connection with a gunshot that occurred during an argument between many individuals and injured six people late Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Police named the suspect as Deomni Myers, who is charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with the gunshot northeast of downtown Colorado Springs, according to a social media statement made Monday.
Myers was arrested after he turned himself in, according to authorities.
According to an online statement released Sunday by the Colorado Springs Police Department, at least one victim was hospitalized in serious condition, while others injured in the incident were in stable condition.
Police say the incident happened soon after 11 p.m. local time on Potter Street in a quiet neighborhood. Several 911 callers reported a “disturbance involving shots fired,” according to the police statement.
“When officers arrived on scene, they found several individuals with gunshot wounds,” investigators stated.
Four gunshot victims were sent to hospitals by ambulance, with two arriving at emergency rooms in personal automobiles, according to police.
“At this time, this appears to have started as an argument between multiple people that [led] to shots being fired,” according to a police announcement.
The motivation for the shooting is still being investigated, and the Colorado Springs Police Department has asked anyone with information about the event to contact detectives.
