Ten People Were Shot Following an Altercation at a Boat Party in South Carolina, According to Police

According to police, ten individuals were shot and at least one was injured during a holiday weekend gathering at a charter boat in a South Carolina coastal village that went violent.

Some of those injured in the Little River shooting on Sunday remained in critical condition as of Monday morning, according to Horry County police, who did not specify how many. Detectives were working to discover who was responsible for the shooting, according to police; no identities were given, and no arrests were made immediately.

According to police, the shooting was the result of an incident during a private Memorial Day weekend gathering on a charter boat in Little River, a community of around 11,000 people located along the Intracoastal Waterway near the North Carolina state line.

Police did not specify if the shooting occurred on the boat. Horry County spokesperson Mikayla Moskov confirmed that the vessel was docked at the time of the incident. Details regarding what caused the altercation were not immediately available.

Police reported that eleven persons had been brought to hospitals. In addition to the ten people who were shot, one individual “reported an unknown non-gunfire-related injury,” police said.

A North Myrtle Beach Police officer suffered a self-inflicted leg injury while responding to the Little River shooting after mistakenly discharging his service pistol, according to the department’s public relations officer, Patrick Wilkinson. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the event.

The cop was taken to the hospital on Sunday night and was still in stable condition Monday afternoon, according to Wilkinson.

Little River is approximately 20 miles northeast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
