According to the Columbia Fire Department, a fire broke out at California Dreaming, located at 401 South Main Street alongside Green’s Beverages, near Assembly Street.
Firefighters arrived at the restaurant shortly before 9:30 p.m. and promptly requested more assistance in the form of a 2nd Alarm after flames were observed shooting through a rear piece of the roof and the building’s third level, according to the fire department.
The fire department reported that both diners and personnel were inside the restaurant when the fire erupted. The fire department said that everyone, including emergency personnel, was successfully evacuated and that no one was injured.
Firefighters created a water supply before entering the blazing building and tracked the fire to the restaurant’s ventilation system, according to the Fire Department.
At 10:22 p.m., the fire department reported that the incident had been brought under control, and by 11:11 p.m., officials confirmed that the fire was out.
The source of the fire in the restaurant’s ventilation system remained unknown, and officials could not indicate whether the blaze was still being investigated.
There was no news on the extent of the restaurant’s damage from the flames, smoke, and water utilized by firemen to immediately confine and limit the fire.
According to its website, California Dreaming was set to open at 11 a.m. on Sunday before the fire. Calls to inquire about the restaurant’s status went unanswered, but around 10:30 a.m., restaurant officials used a Facebook post to say that they will be open as scheduled.

A similar fire broke out at the restaurant in June 2018, however it was quickly reopened after sustaining minor damage.
California Dreaming is part of a restaurant chain. According to its website, the franchise has six locations in total, four of which are in South Carolina, and one each in Georgia and Alabama.
