The Tijuana River’s sewage discharge has caused San Diego County health officials to prolong a water contact closure for a significant portion of the coast.
The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality warned locals on Saturday night that the ocean water might make them sick.
According to the county, ocean waters will be closed until field observations and sampling verify that these places are safe for water contact.
The Tijuana Slough was still enclosed from the international boundary beachfront to three-quarters of a mile north of the Tijuana River mouth, and the Imperial Beach shoreline was added.
After samples satisfied state health requirements, the county lifted the advisory, and the beach area off Avenida Lunar in Coronadois is now open.
According to the county, a new caution was in force for Swami’s in Encinitas because of high levels of germs.

Bonita Cove, the Chart House parking lot, Glorietta Bay, La Jolla Cove, La Jolla Children’s Pool, Lawrence Street, Los Pe asquitos Lagoon outlet, San Diego River Dog Beach, San Dieguito River outlet, and San Elijo Lagoon Outlet were all still under an advisory due to high levels of bacteria.
