At its annual English as a Second Language (ESL) Celebration, North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) gathered together students from four counties in Northeast Georgia for a day of camaraderie, cuisine, and cultural exchange.
On the Clarkesville campus, students from Habersham, Rabun, Stephens, and White counties came together to celebrate their academic achievements, exchange experiences, and eat dinner. The occasion honored the commitment of adult learners to become fluent in English as well as the variety of cultural viewpoints they bring to the community.(NGTC provided the photo.)
“The core of this program is our students,” stated Shelby Ward, head of adult education at NGTC. The focus of today was to honor their commitment to education, their bravery in developing, and the diverse cultural backgrounds they bring to our schools.
Faculty, students, and families from NGTC’s Adult Education program—which provides free ESL programs with flexible day and evening schedules—participated in the celebration. The curriculum gives students the tools to explore more chances by strengthening their speaking, writing, and reading abilities for use in the workplace, classroom, and daily life.
Adult learners of all backgrounds are welcome to enroll in NGTC’s ESL courses. For many, the program fosters the development of enduring friendships in a nurturing setting, boosts confidence, and enhances language proficiency.
