According to officials on Saturday, the San Diego Blood Bank is 1,400 pints away from reaching its target of 3,500 pints at its blood drive in conjunction with this weekend’s Comic-Con conference.
The Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 6 p.m.
More than 2,100 pints of blood have been drawn thus far, according to officials.
As long as sizes and materials are available, all contributors will receive a limited-edition Marvel Fantastic 4 T-shirt along with other special Comic-Con items, according to SDBB officials.
The blood drive, which is in its 49th year, is said to be the biggest and most established event of its kind in San Diego.
The SDBB claims that this year’s theme, which is based on the impending release of the Fantastic 4 film, encourages Comic-Con goers and the community to embrace their inner heroes and save lives.
Donors must be in generally good condition, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be at least 17 years old.
According to SDBB, walk-ins are welcome but appointments will be honored first. Every donor is required to show a photo ID card indicating their birthdate.

Over the last 48 years, Comic-Con visitors, exhibitors, professionals, volunteers, and staff have contributed over 90,000 pints of blood, potentially saving the lives of over 270,000 people.
