Driver arrested for allegedly careening into emergency room tent

Last week, a guy crashed a vehicle into a medical tent at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, injuring at least one person.

At the scene of the July 10 incident, the driver of the Honda sedan—a 33-year-old San Diego man—was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. He sustained injuries in the crash and was taken to a nearby trauma facility.

According to a statement from the Chula Vista Police Department, the car struck a gurney behind an ambulance first, hurting a nearby medic who was sent to a trauma hospital with potentially critical injuries.

According to the statement, the car then proceeded through the parking lot and struck a chain-link fence, which it pushed as it entered the medical triage tent.

According to reports, the event also caused minor injuries to three others inside the tent.

The investigation is still underway, and police say they do not think it was an intentional act.
