A one-bedroom apartment in San Diego often costs $2,000 or more per month, making it one of the most costly rental markets in the nation. A recent poll conducted by the Southern California Rental Housing Association found that rents have increased 4.1% in San Diego County and 9.3% in the city itself over the previous year.

More locals are choosing shared living as a way to foster a feeling of community and save money as the cost of living rises overall.

According to Rupert Hunt, founder and CEO of SpareRoom, who will be attending the event, the company has assisted more than 2.5 million people in the United States in finding roommates. We have organized this speed roommating event since the individuals you live with have the power to make or ruin your shared living experience. In a city where housing costs have grown unaffordable for many, it all comes down to offline search and facilitating genuine human connections.

For those seeking for a room or advertising one, the event serves as a kind of mixer. Speed dating served as the model for the concept, but without the cumbersome tables and timers. After grabbing a sticker that reads, “I need a room or a roommate,” attendees grab a drink and begin chatting.
