CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Terrell Eugene Giddens, 75, charged with killing a father of three in a road-rage shooting near Lake Norman last year, is seeking a bond reduction, according to court documents and local reports.
The fatal shooting occurred on October 12, 2024, just before 5 p.m. Jeffrey Michael Guida, 40, was driving with his three daughters — ages 2, 11, and 13 — in the back seat of a Jeep Wagoneer when Giddens allegedly confronted him, according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.
Witnesses at the scene reported that both men exited their vehicles and that Giddens fired multiple rounds into Guida’s vehicle while the children remained inside unharmed.
After the shooting, Giddens reportedly drove home, discarded his clothing in a trash bag, changed clothes, and then paddled a kayak out on Lake Norman to dispose of the trash bag and the rifle used in the shooting, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Defense Argues for Bond Reduction
Giddens’ attorney, Robert Campbell, filed a motion seeking bond modification, emphasizing Giddens’ presumed innocence and his “significant ties” to the community. The filing notes that Giddens is a retired General Motors employee with 36 years of service and served as a tank commander in Vietnam and Germany before an honorable discharge in 1971.
Family Seeks Community Support to Deny Bond
Meanwhile, Guida’s family has urged the community to oppose any bond release for Giddens. In a May 9 post on a GoFundMe page titled Support Karen and Daughters After Tragedy, Guida’s wife Karen expressed heartbreak and frustration, stating that Giddens had confessed and witnesses corroborated the crime.
“The man who murdered Jeff while my children watched and then turned the AR-15 on them is AGAIN asking for bond and to be released,” she wrote. “We humbly ask for your support and hope to fill the courtroom.”
Remembering the Victim
Guida, originally from Lewiston, Maine, was remembered in his obituary as a devoted husband and loving father who enjoyed hiking, cooking, motorcycles, traveling, weightlifting, and gaming.
Charges and Current Status
Giddens faces charges of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder. He remains held without bond as the case continues. Fox News Digital has reached out to Campbell for comment
