On the morning of July 4, the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office will organize their third annual Firecracker 5K and Fun Run in collaboration with local nonprofit Team Give Back, filling downtown Dahlonega with red, white, and blue runners.
The Dahlonega Visitors Center, situated at 13 South Park Street, will host the event starting at 7 a.m. At 8 a.m., the 5K will be followed shortly after by the Fun Run. Historic downtown is where both races start and finish.
Lumpkin County Administrative Assistant to the Sheriff Mitzi Deaton, who is also in charge of the event, said, “Bring your kids out to the Fun Run; bring your strollers if you want to run the 5K; bring your dog if you want to; or just walk the 5K and enjoy the scenery of our beautiful town.”The course map for Dahlonega’s next Firecracker 5K. There is a $40 registration fee for the 5K and a $15 registration fee for the Fun Run. The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office Youth Programs, which offer local kids and teenagers support, mentorship, and activities, will receive the race’s proceeds.
According to Deaton, there will be food and water available at the starting and finishing lines. Participants will have access to a water station at the Cottrell Elementary School roundabout during the race, she said.
An official race t-shirt will be given to those who pre-registered before Friday, June 20. The top three finishers in each age group, from 12 and under to 80 and up, as well as the top overall male and female finishers will receive awards.
