LULA, Georgia. A 25,000-square-foot commercial storage building in Banks County was reduced to rubble by fire on Tuesday afternoon, sending one firefighter to the hospital.
At 4:38 p.m. on July 1, Banks County Fire and Emergency Services received a call at 733 Mount Sinai Road in Lula. Crews arrived to see the structure, which was used to store a variety of supplies and cars, completely engulfed in flames. According to Steve Nichols, the fire chief for Banks County, the fire also destroyed a number of automobiles.
One firefighter was sent to Northeast Georgia Medical Center due to heat exhaustion, Nichols said. They were released early on Wednesday morning after being listed as stable on Tuesday night. At the site, another firefighter received treatment for a heat-related ailment.
The LACI Fire Department and Jackson County CI Fire Department helped put out the fire. On the site, crews fought the fire and put out hot spots for almost eight hours.
The cause of the fire is being looked into by the Banks County Fire Department. According to Nichols, it now seems to be an accident.
