Atlanta The Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) of the Georgia Department of Public Safety will formally operate as Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) as of July 1.
The move is intended to better represent the division’s primary objective of enforcing safety laws for commercial motor vehicles throughout Georgia. It was brought about by the passing of House Bill 116 during the 2025 legislative session.
According to a news release from the Georgia Department of Public Safety, the new moniker will be used on all official items, such as uniforms, vehicle markings, patches, and other insignia.
The responsibilities of CVE have not changed despite the nomenclature change. To improve highway safety, officers will keep inspecting drivers, cargo, and commercial vehicles. These inspections happen at motor carrier terminals, inspection stations, and at the side of the road.
The 13th Commercial Vehicle Officer School, the division’s first new officer class under the CVE designation, will be held at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth on July 11.
