A water main break in the 6200 block of Willingham Avenue has prompted the City of Baldwin to issue a boil water alert. Some consumers of the city’s water system may experience low water pressure or service interruptions as a result of the break.
Because of the possible risk of microbiological contamination in locations where water pressure has decreased, officials say the alert is being issued out of a sense of caution.
It is recommended that residents who have had low pressure or outages boil their tap water before using it for cooking, drinking, or making baby food. For at least two minutes, bring the water to a rolling boil.
Until water testing indicates that there is no longer a risk to public health, the recommendation will be in force. Before using the water for drinking or cooking, residents should flush all faucets for at least two minutes after lifting them.
