A gas leak this morning forced the closure of a prominent intersection along one of Cornelia’s main thoroughfares for almost two hours.
A construction worker reportedly damaged a gas line, prompting authorities to close the intersection of Level Grove Road and the US 441 Bypass just after 10 a.m.
Jonathan Roberts, the Cornelia Police Chief, told Now Habersham that Atlanta Gas Light arrived quickly and contained the situation.
Traffic had to be rerouted around the impacted area while workers fixed the leak.
Just before noon, police reopened the intersection. According to Roberts, no local businesses were shut down.
