With Mayor Kevin McCarty at the helm, approximately 500,000 people call Sacramento home, and some may be getting checks soon.
Classified as the capital of California, this place has seen an influx of people from as early as 1850. It falls within proximity to other bigger cities and offers a budget-friendly way of living.
Although Sacramento is a capital city, its low-key status helps to curb some of the hustle and bustle experienced within the tourism industry. The unique setup of Sacramento offers a bit of urban living surrounded by Mother Nature.
A versatile place loved by people
Sacramento has a vast array of outdoor activities available. These include walking spaces, parks, lakes, rivers, as well as mountains for those who wish to do a bit of skiing in winter. Various businesses within the area also promote activities to keep the locals occupied.
Individuals who are shy by nature may also find a bit of solace in the available museums. Ghost tours also offer a unique way to gain a glimpse into the historical side of this town.
If none of these appeal to anyone, a quick road trip may quench a traveller’s thirst. Various cities such as Las Vegas, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, etc, are just a quick road trip away.
For those who wish to settle down, the job opportunities in this city are plentiful, with a low unemployment rate. The weather conditions are also quite favourable. Winters do get cold, but the area is not bombarded by heavy snowfall.
Taking the welfare of the people to the next level
Even if you take everything else off the cards, Sacramento is a city that takes the welfare of its residents to heart. This can be seen in the FFESP or Sacramento Family First Program. This program aims to provide financial relief to those low-income families who suffer from the impact of inflation. This statewide initiative is set to commence during mid-June with a monthly benefit payment of $725.
The application phase for this program was open from 14 April up and until 27 April. Applications could be done via the online portal. Payments will only be made to selected families. These selected families would have been notified via the acceptance notices.
These notices would have been sent out by the FFESP staff during the week of 5 May by way of text message, email, or a phone call.
What is the long-term value of these benefit checks?
Those individuals who received notifications are urged to respond by the specified deadline. If no response is received, the allocated place in the program may be reassigned to somebody else.
Those individuals who have not received any contact from the FFESP staff by 6 June can accept that their application was not selected for this program. This program forms part of a broader economic support strategy.
This broader strategy came to a head during the COVID-19 pandemic with the stimulus check payments. The current focus is to continue with the assistance, specifically directed at low-income families and targeted at child welfare. Selection for the FFESP will be done randomly.
The selected applicants will be notified and also requested to verify their eligibility before they can proceed to enroll in the program.
Meetings will be scheduled with selected individuals to discuss the potential impact that this program will have on them. Specifically, how these payments will affect the current public benefits that they receive. With the steady rise in prices, it has become a lot harder for families to survive.
With this goal in mind, the program wants to provide a measure of assistance to families to be able to cover some of their basic needs. These can be things such as childcare, food, and housing, hoping to alleviate some of the ongoing hardship.
