Sanford Airport Police detained a woman outside an airport gate after alleging she repeatedly slapped a youngster on a plane.
According to the police report, the incident began when the child called Kristy Crampton “fat” and “Miss Piggy.”
Crampton was on Allegiant Flight 2885, which flew from Orlando-Sanford International Airport to Hagerstown, Maryland on Memorial Day. The family was preparing to go home from their Disney World vacation.
Witnesses told police that the girl informed Crampton she couldn’t fit in the airplane seat.
According to witnesses, Crampton “began hitting the child with her fist,” then smacked him on the head with a water bottle. According to the complaint, she “slammed” the child’s head into the plane’s window.
According to the report, the toddler covered his head with his arms.
Airport officials have not stated the child’s age. However, Crampton told police that the boy was “very rude” and “disrespectful” during their trip to Disney. Crampton told police that when the boy called her ‘fat’, she took his phone away. According to the article, she claims he shoved her arm off the armrest twice, which prompted her to start “smacking” him.
According to the report, she went above and above “typical disciplinary actions.” One witness stated, “The woman was not correcting the child; she was abusing him.”
According to the report, the family declined to make statements to police.
Crampton was charged with criminal child abuse. She appeared in front of a Seminole County judge on Tuesday, and he granted her $10,000 bond.
The judge ordered that she have no contact with the child.
According to the article, the FBI was notified of the event.
